Angels Landing Hike In Zion National Park

Hiking Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park

Hiking Angel’s Landing can take great effort. Make sure to bring plenty of water, power bars, something to maintain your energy level. Many people use walking sticks and knee supports. This can only be done at the beginning of the hike or on your way down. You will have no use for walking sticks toward the top of this hike. However, again they help on the way down. Start this hike early and prepare weeks in advance by walking a few miles. This is a strenuous hike. I advise you to wear walking or running shoes and forget the boots. (Tight) Gloves will help on the chains if you want to make it to the top.

Shuttle Stops and Times

Small map https://www.nps.gov/zion/learn/news/newspaper.htm

You will want to take the shuttle in, a few miles, to the Grotto. Start at the West Rim Trail. You will cross the bridge and go right. Your hike begins along the river with a moderate climb until you reach the first set of switch backs. This is work and well worth it. You will begin an incline along the face wall. The switch backs lead to Refrigerator Canyon, a long narrow stretch of cool air between the canyon walls will cool you off in the summer. Then, you will reach the second set of switch backs. Prepare the knees because this is energy draining. You will reach a plateau.

You will think you are close. Oh no, You have just begun to climb. The hardest, most difficult, most dangerous part is in front of you.

You have arrived at your hike.

There is no doubt that even if you do not continue further, you still will see the most beautiful, amazing, place to be. The canyon, sky, animals, trees, flowers, make it worth the hike. Again , I say prepare for this hike. Don’t think you can just not prepare. Number one water and bring some food and snack bars. I guarantee, you will need them.

If time permits, or even the next day, check out the lodge and shorter hikes.
